Can't Fail Pizza Dough.

The first time that I tried to make pizza dough it refused to rise. Total bummer, but luckily it still tasted just as good loaded up with fresh veggies...and pineapple...and ham...and bacon...and extra gouda cheese. We take pizza very seriously. Then, after searching high and low for a simple and fool proof recipe - it happened.

Pizza dough
Image & Recipe via Taste.com
375ml (1 1/2 cups) warm water
2 tsp (7g/1 sachet) dried yeast
Pinch of caster sugar
600g (4 cups) plain flour
1 tsp salt
60ml (1/4 cup) olive oil, plus extra for brushing

1. Combine the water, yeast and sugar in a small bowl. Set aside for 5 minutes or until foamy. Combine the flour and salt in a large bowl and make a well in the centre. Add the yeast mixture and oil. Use a round-bladed knife in a cutting motion to mix until the mixture is combined. Use your hands to bring the dough together in the bowl.

2. Brush a bowl lightly with oil. Turn the dough onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 10 minutes or until smooth and elastic. Place in the prepared bowl and turn to coat in oil. Cover with plastic wrap and set aside in a warm, draft-free place to rise for 30 minutes or until dough doubles in size.

  1. Wow! like the new style of your blog:))

  2. YAY! What was missing the first tries? And I love that you eat pineapple on your pizza...people look at me strange when I do (granted its with spinach), but HELLO that is what a hawaiian pizza is!!

  3. I made pizza dough AND breadsticks from scratch for a Creative Cooking project about 6 years ago. I had no problems with it rising, although it took me HOURS to get the dough ready to cook. I think I'll just stick with the Pilsbury hot rolls mix we normally use when I want "from scratch" pizza.

  4. I've been looking for a pizza dough recipe. Can't wait to try yours. Thanks for visiting me at A Season for All Things. I'm your newest follower. ~ Ellen

  5. Oh, thanks for sharing this!! The boy and I just tried to make our own pizza last Friday and our problem was that it was super thick....to the point where the cheese was burning on top, but the middle wasn't cooked. Can't wait to try this one thought!!
